Deep In the Heart of Texas
Finally. After over two years of living in Austin- I got to go inside Texas Memorial Stadium and see what all this Longhorn allegiance was about, and believe me, it did not disappoint.
The stadium holds 100,000, and yesterday is broke its attendance record by packing in 101, 437. That is a lot of burnt orange!
I thought of Mom, Dave, and Andria especially when the world-class Longhorn marching band wowed the crowd with Texas classics such as "Deep in the Heart of Texas" and complex formations of various UT logos.
Though it was only 90 degrees (cooler than the last month has been), Dad suffered greatly from the heat. Here is the sweat ring in his longhorn hat. His shirt was also soaked. We had to take AC breaks every 15 minutes or so to prevent his heart from giving out.

Proving once and for all that my presence can bring bad luck to even the mightiest of sports franchises, the Longhorns lost to UCLA (34-12). It was very shocking, sad, and disappointing for almost all 100 thousand in attendance except for few brave Bruins fans who must have had the time of their lives. Regardless we had a great time, and capped the day off with a nice dinner including Chelsea (and my new boots!):
