School Work and the SNAKE

Just some examples of what I've been working away at these past few weeks:
We are being forced to work on our hand lettering intensively this year. I think it is some sort of brain-washing tactic or something. And it is very annoying. But I cannot deny that I am really getting better at it.

Two sketches of the site that we are working on in studio this semester. It is Waller Creek, which runs through downtown Austin. Its a very sad, filthy, abandoned place where transients live. And we are supposed to redesign it into a cohesive district for downtown that promotes urban living and maintains Austin's special character. You know, all that good stuff.
And the SNAKE!
We were on a site visit, mapping and sketching the creek today- when we spotted this snake! The creek is extremely polluted and gross, but amazingly, wildlife still persists there. (there is a turtle in this picture too, in case you didn't see) There was a lot of speculation that this was a Water Moccasin because every Texas native swears they are all over these parts. However I did not get close enough to confirm this. It was big though, I could tell that much. I would say 3-4 feet stretched out. How would you like to see that swimming with you in Town Lake?

That handwriting is amazing!! Do they teach comic book illustrators to write the same way? And the sketches are beautiful, too.

Cool snake photos! I'll tell my dad to check them out. 2 things I do know about water moccasins are: 1)They look very thick for their length, and 2) when they swim, most of their body is above the surface of the water.

Gosh, Austin sounds great and all, but Water Moccasins could be a deal-breaker for me. Good for you for playing it so cool in your blog - I would have somehow conveyed how I nearly urinated in my pants upon seeing it, but you played it like it was nothing. Cool sketches, by the way. Mom said you were hitting the library until like 11 on a Sunday night, so I know you're working really hard. We wish you continued success.
