Weird Things
After some recent rains the prickly pear went nuts and started sprouting buds everywhere. They are bizarre looking little things. The future spines are just soft little spikes when they first start out.
And this! This is a Texas grapefruit. These things are legendary for how delicious and sweet they are. But I can never get over how grapefruit flesh reminds at once of raw meat (maybe a Japanese fish of some sort) and a seed pod of alien babies. Just a thought.

I like the prickly pear picture. These grow in Sicily as well. My nanna called them something that sounded like "fig-oo-dini." But I didn't know what the baby spikes look like.
