The Century Plant

This is a Century Plant by school (otherwise known as Agave). It has been preparing to flower for weeks. Isn't it amazing? Its called a "Century Plant" because it takes, like, forever to flower (really only about 20-30 years). And then it dies. The flower is not a flower at all really, but a bunch of spores that fly off of it and go make new plants. I just like that it looks like a 20 foot tall asparagus stalk.

We had a couple of neighbors in Napa who had these! You get some weird stuff that grows in places where it never really freezes...
