What We Did...

For the last two weeks I have been participating in the ULI (Urban Land Institute) Hines competition at school. This is an interdisciplinary urban design competition that all of the architecture schools in the country participate in. Harvard, Penn, and Berkley usually win. But UT came in 2nd last year- so we were trying to give it a good show again.
I was on a team with an architect, two urban designers, and a planner. And above is the final product that we submitted. It will be hard to see, because I had to shrink the file considerably to get it on blogger. But the gist is that we re-designed an existing location in Denver, CO. It is currently a huge parking lot with big box stores, and we were to turn it into a sustainable community for the year 2050. We also had to calculate the costs, etc (bottom left of board).
My team, out of 13 teams at UT, was definitely the biggest underdog. Everything that could go wrong for us, did. We had a team member quit, without notice. We lost our files the morning they were due. We had three computer crashes on the last day. And we made it to FedEx five minutes late to mail it. Luckily the truck driver was still there, so we got it in the mail just in time. It was crazy. And I am SOOOO happy it is over. Whew!

How do you even begin to build a project like that? You're smarter than I thought! :-)

Wow. Cool. I bet that parking lot in Denver would look WAY cooler like this. And I hope you kick Harvard's butt.
